Our summer competitions are now complete and reports of these events follow. Photos are also available on the photo gallery pages.
First Annual Golf Day
The first annual Golf Day was held at Beverley Westwood course when 16 teams took part. The weather decided it would also take part in the day as we had sun, wind and rain during the round. The first team teed off at 10:00 with the final fourball starting at noon. The going was slow at the back of the field with the first six holes taking 3 hours! However despite comments to the contrary we did finish before bedtime. Everyone enjoyed the day topped off with a hearty meal in the clubhouse.
The winning team was that of James Addy, one of Andy Kingstons, hockey team mates. Their final combined score being an unbeatable 91 points. The longest drive was won by Alex Young who was playing in Andy Littlefair's team. This competition changed hands some three or four times before Alex hit a tremendous drive which left a short pitch to the green. The final competition of the day was the nearest to the pin on the short 18th. The winner of this was one of our own members. He has never played golf before and had a medal score of 132 for the round. Playing in the first team on the course his shot on the 18th was never beaten and Chris Rogers held on from first to last.

The club had four members, not just Andy Kingston, running the 2012 edition of the Jim Dingwall Elloughton 10K.
After seeing the first three runners break away from the rest of the field it was some time before any of out members arrived at the finish. But arrive they did. In order of finishing we have Chris Rogers, Andy Littlefair, Rich Harrison and Andy Kingston.
The official times for their respective runs are:
Chris Rogers - 44 minutes 6 seconds
Andy Littlefair - 48 minutes 43 seconds
Rich Harrison - 51 minutes 41 seconds
Andy Kingston - 52 minutes 34 seconds

If the competition was to guess the time that Chris took the winner would have been Mike Smith. If it had been on Andy Littlefairs time the winner would have been Chris Rogers. The nearest guess to Rich Harrison's time was from Barrie Baker. However the times were based on what Andy Kingston achieved and in third place, with a guess of 52 minutes 50 seconds, is Dan Kemp, in second place with a guess of 52 minutes 25 seconds was Martin Kingston. But the winner with a guess of 52 minutes 31 seconds is David Barker. David wins a number in the HICE 100 club draw for the next 12 months. Well done David. Many thanks to all who had a go guessing the time.

HICE SINGLE WICKET (also known as the Lord Barrington Young Trophy)
What a great afternoon’s entertainment and fun!
With only a dozen entries the format was changed to allow all competitors in the first round two games each. This really worked well and produced some interesting results as everyone tried to out hit each other. With four groups of three and the winners to go through to a semi-final there was some big hitting as well as some quick wickets. The fastest wicket to fall was that of Chris Rogers out first ball to Martin Kingston. The biggest score of the first round was that of Andy Kingston with 23 off 9 balls from Dan Daley. Dan was very close behind with 22 from 10 balls off Andy Kingston . The final two matches saw two of the semi-finalists determined when Barry Young easily beat Dan Daley 10 runs to 0 whilst in the last match of the round Dan Smith beat Liam Walker 8 runs to 4.
The first Semi-final was between James Forrester, who had beaten Martin Kingston and Chris Rogers in the first round, and David Barker, who had beaten Grant Van Es and Rob Hodges. Fozzy was first to bat and scored a defendable 13 runs off his 10 balls. The second semi-final saw the old man of the 1st team against the young man of the 3rd’s. The opening score by Dan Smith saw him score 8 from 8 balls to set Barry Young a tough target. The second innings of the first semi-final had controversy when Fozzy claimed a catch behind off Denzie but the umpire ruled not out. David then went on to equal the score of 13 from his 10 balls to set up a bowl-off. Barry ran like a youngster when he managed to beat Dan’s score to progress to the final. The bowl-off between Fozzy and Denzie took longer than expected as both of them missed the target four times before Denzie finally managed a straight full toss which took the top of off stump. Unfortunately for Fozzy he could not find a straight one.
The final saw Barry running even quicker than in the semi-final and set Denzie a target of 19 to win. We thought we might have to send for some oxygen as Barry was running so fast. After a short rest Barry kept Denzie down to low number but after half the balls had been bowled the required runs stood at 10 as miss-fields had allowed David to creep up on scoring rate. However tight bowling meant that 5 was required to win off the last ball. David could only manage a four to tie the scores and set up another bowl-off. As David had bowled first he had the first shy at the wickets but missed. Everyone thought David would not get another chance but Barry put his first attempt just passed leg stump. David put his second ball just passed off stump but Barry didn’t allow another chance by knocking over middle and off to win.
Congratulations to Barry Young for an excellent well fought win. We are all amazed at the speed he generated in setting the target in the final. Our thanks to all the members who took the opportunity to have a great afternoon of fun and banter. Those of you who could not make it missed a really enjoyable afternoon with everyone wanting this on a monthly basis!
On the field of play July has been a mixed month as all teams went through the usual mid-season slump in form. Like London buses you wait for a season or two then centuries come in droves. Andy Kingston hit his second century of the season and David Barker hit his maiden century in the same match. This was against Airmyn as HICE 1st XI ammassed a total of 249 for 1 in the opening innings. Unfortunately the HICE bowlers came uip against a parked bus and could not knock over the last two batsmen to gain the full victory. The result was the next best thing with a 19 point winning draw. This was the third winning draw the 1st XI had played out during July although the others weren't so fruitful in terms of points. The 2nd's winning run came to an end when they were well beaten by new divisional leaders Humbleton. Their next mattch fell foul of the weather and then a loosing draw against Sutton followed. However an easy win over Hull brought the month to a close. The 3rd's had two matches against Roos scheduled for July but the first, away at Roos was concede by the home side. The following week, at Brantingham Park was a close affair with only 13 wickets going down across the two teams. Unfortunately for HICE roos ran out winners.
This month has seen the launch of our new look newsletter called "HICE Society". Along with a new look comes a new editor - Dan Kemp. If you want to put something into the newsletter then Dan is your man!
We have a number of events coming up off the field of play so watch for the "Single Wicket Competition" our "Golf Day" and the "Way of the Roses" bike ride by Simon Cowling and Nathan Morris. We also have a competition before then with a "Guess the time" where you can win a free number (valid for 12 months) in the HICE 100 Club draw for simply guessing the time taken for Andy Kingston (1st team vice captain) to run the Elloughton 10 Km race which takes place on Sunday 29th July. Team captains have a form to enter your guess at just £1 per go.
On Sunday August 5th we resurrect an event that was played some years ago - A Single Wicket competition. Entry to this event is £10 for more information on the event and what happens contact Andy Reeves or Barry Young.
The First Annual HICE Golf day will take place on Friday 17th August. This will be for teams of four and played under the "Stableford" format. Cost of the day, including a meal, is £30 or £120 per team. Entries to Andy Kingston. Ther are prizes for Winning Team, Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin.
An event that will take place later in the year, October in fact, will be Simon Cowling and Nathan Morris taking on the Way of the Roses challenge. The pair will be cycling from Morecambe to Bridlington and then back to Brantingham Park over the weekend of 12th, 13th and 14th October. An effort that will endure a ride of over 200 miles. This ride is in aid of raising funds for the club. Sponsorship forms can be obtained from team captains. In obtaining sponsorship there is a prize for the highest amount (over £150) of a full years membership for 2013. Anyone raising in excess of £100 in sponsorship will win a free number (valid for 12 months) in the HICE 100 Club Draw.
On the field June was a month of mixed fortunes for our teams. We have seen two centuries scored and some high scoring by the 1st and 2nd teams. Whilst the 3rds won two games, one in bizarre fashion, and lost heavily.
The centurians are Andy Kingston with 112 and Shaun Johnson Jnr with 108. The 1st team had a large win over Patrington back in May but could not reproduce the scoring during June. The 2nd's had wins over Pelican & Hessle and the 3rd's beat top of the table Roos. The 3rd's bizarre win came against Marist when after losing the game on the field the match was conceded on the grounds of playing an ineligible player. The 3rd's almost pulled of an improbable win against Brigg Town when James Smith took 7 for 28 which included a hat-trick. Unfortunately the batsmen had not done enough in the 1st innings to win the game. This year there willbe no cup glory as both the 1st and 3rd teams were knocked out at the first hurdle.

Six Superb days in May! After a wet start to the season we finally got playing that first bank holiday. The 2nd XI have commenced a winning streak. The 1st XI thrash South Holderness in less time than the 3rd team have to complete an innings And the 3rd's beat Roos to get a win in May. To top the months excellent results all teams win in the space of six days. The under 15's got the winning sequence under way on Thursday 24th when they achieved their target of 100 with the loss of just 3 wickets in beating South Cave. On Saturday 26th the 1st XI thrashed South Holderness by 8 wickets in less time than the 3rd's had in ammassing 152 for 8 in 40 overs. The 3rd's then completed their first win of the season by bowling Roos out for just 116. The following day the 2nd XI completed their fourth win of the campaign by seeing off a Beverley side by 7 wickets. The final result of the six days was when the Midweek team impressively scored 187 - 1 in 20 overs to set up a win over the same club as the juniors had when starting this sequence. Season underway! Well it is supposed to be however as we approach the first of the Spring holidays (Mayday for those that don't know) there have only been two leagues fixtures played out of all the fixtures in the first two weeks. Even the two matches that got underway only one got to a conclusion.
The 1st XI should have started at Kirk Ella but that was rained off. They should then have visited Sutton but this too fell to the weather. The 3rd XI also gained 5 points by not playing. Their match against Ferriby at Swanland also victim of the weather. As I write the heavy rain has eased and the wind abated a little but it does not auger well for the coming weekend. At least yesterday (Saturday) the 1st team wicket was cut and rolled in the initial preparation for the coming matches. Fortunately Barry and I got the cover sheet down and hopefully the wicket will not be too wet tomorrow when I look at the next stage of preparation. Hopefully we may get some play in before the next Bank holiday.
The NatWest Cricketforce weekend has been and gone. Thanks to those members who put some effort in. We managed to get the pavillion cleaned (outside at least) and roof repaired. Guttering has been installed, just in time to collect all this lovely water! Yes the water butt is full and a second will be added shortly.

We now need you to come forward and volunteer for this event which will take place over the weekend of March 30/31 & April 1.
This year the club is looking to repaint the outside of the pavillion so we need more volunteers than last year.
If you don't fancy doing some painting we have other jobs that need doing so you won't be stood around idle.

Our winter net sessions commence Sunday 8th January at 5:15pm. These are held at South Hunsley School and will run until the weekend before Easter.
We welcome players of all ages from 10 years and all abilities. We especially welcome female players as we want to increase our female membership with a view to starting a ladies side.
The season will commence on Saturday 21st April. At present the fixtures for the 1st, 2nd and Midweekteams are available, however the fixtures for the 3rd team are still to be made available by the league.
